View Full Version : Poll: Seminar or Webinar?

It's been suggested that because of the vast distances some people would have to travel to come to Adelaide a webinar would be more suitable than a seminar (OneDayWealth-A-Thon). Not to mention much cheaper for everyone and much more convenient but of course we don't get the face to face.

So I'm going to take some feedback from you all (please vote).

Seminar:

Pros

Warm and Fuzzy,
Lots of hand shaking,
Face to face
Cons

Travel,
Accommodation costs,
Time off work.

Webinar:

Pros

Easy
Convenient
Quick (it could happen as soon as next week).
Recordable,
No travel.

Cons

Requires high speed broadband connection
If you can think of any other pros and cons for each suggestion feel free to add your comment and I'll add it to the list.

Hey Bill,
Webinar works for me - much easier to sort out stuff with the kids :)
Thanks,

I dont think we will get the same interaction and opportunity to learn from each other with a webinar (Con). Like the idea tho

Hi Bill,
Webinar works best for me until I become a pro trader, recording it would be good too for those who aren't free when it is on and so we could refer back to it. We are all used to typing comments. Not as good as face to face but would serve more people. Adele

Webinar for me Bill, done them before.....everyone can see and hear while having a computer infront of them to trade at the same time...if you get my drift. The savings could go towards their bank....I personally prefer a resort o/s with a similar time zone..lol
Thanks

I voted seminar but I also like the combo idea. I wouldn't be able to stay for a whole week - hubby would be off work minding kids.

While I'm still having to work in a job, webinar is the go. I've been to heaps, they are a pretty effective learning tool.
I love Adelaide though and it would be great to meet you all in person, just not in the near future.

Maybe you could webinar the seminar... for those of us who can't make it. The "live" vibe would still be there for all & you can add the webinar as a "bonus" on your salesletter Bill.

Hi Bill,

As we descussed yesterday, i have been part of many webinars while doing my diploma of share trading & investing and have found them very useful to be part of and to also go back over when finished(as we all learn in differant ways and also differant speeds) especially the charting webinars, so i am in favour of the webinar idea. But it doesn't stop, i also think that a get together for a group of traders that meet selected critia set by you ie levels, profit, only peolpe in Townsville(just an idea) is also something to strive for.

Would love to come to a seminar but I'd need a fair bit of notice and its a bad time of year- webinar it is for me.
Would you be saving them so we could review them on here later?

Cheers

I like the webinar idea too... It allows the greater number of members to join in. Also keeps time and costs down and for me allows both Ross & I to join in, otherwise only one of us could attend the seminar.

As nice as it is to do the meet and greet, being in Sydney we wouldn't travel to another state for a seminar. Webinars are very common these days (we seem to do one a week) and I think they work really well for everyone.:clapping:

Hi Bill

I like the idea of the webinars as hopefully more group training can take place throughout the year - but so long as the seminars don’t disappear.

The experience at TP2 was just magic - to meet these wonderful people face to face - learning with and from them and about them, and the absolutely vibration of positive energy that comes from being in a place were everyone has the same objective.

Webinars definately Bill.
With them you can reach more people more quickly.... get this great trading style out there... help generate the income and wealth we are all seeking at which time you can then schedule periodic seminars for the warm fuzzies and interaction with the most fabulous group of people ever !!!

Hi Bill, even though I like to meet people face to face, have the interaction and feel the energy that it creates, I do feel more for a webinar, I agree with all the pros for a webinar and I think it is a great idea to have these webinars more often!!! More opportunities on a regular basis to learn! Thanks for organize it all!!

At present webinars suit me better with work and family also living in the NT I'm far from most of the venues. Although in the future I'd like to experience something like the traders paradise and meet other members as well as you in person Bill.

Webinars will certainly allow you to attract a vastly increased number of participants and therefore from a sheer numbers point of view you are more likley to make more sales if that is the purpose of the presentation. I heard some statistics not so long ago however that indicated with seminars you have a higher chance of successful selling to your target audience from a percentage point of view than with webinars. Probably something to do with the fact that attendees at a seminar may well be more motivated and perhaps represent more of the type of client that the presenter would like to attract. Overall however I believe the webinar wins out from the presenter's point of view because usually the rewards (read sales) far outweighs the effort involved in setting up the presentation. From the client's perspective - not having to travel is a huge bonus and the best webinars I have ever attended without fail involve the presenter promising to answer all the questions (one way or another). The most frustrating part of a webinar is not having your questions answered and no way to follow up quickly for further information. Cheers Dr David K

Hi Bill,
Although the idea of the webinar is very practical for many more people than the seminar, what would be the outcome for those who do not have access to the high speed broadband. Would they be able to participate?

Hi Bill,
The idea of the webinar is great and more suited to a lot more people ie. different countries, states etc. I also think having a seminar for those who want to attend would also be beneficial.

hi bill,
I prefer to meet people face to face so i prefer seminar but with a webinar you can reach more people quicker and as you said it may be as soon as next week so more people would benifit sooner and that appeals to me. Maybe a webinar first and a seminar at a later date.

Hi Bill,

David & I have voted for the webinar because we feel they are very practical and can be held more often. However, we still believe that a seminar/get together of members can be very rewarding and could be held once or possibly twice a year in strategic locations to suit all members - because nothing beats the ability to network!

We also like Shona's idea :1smile:

Hi Bill, i would love a holiday in Adelade and to meet you and other members but can't really afford the travel and accom' at the moment so i'll have to vote webinar. I'd much prefer a seminar as i think i would learn a lot more, so if it happens i'll just have to scrap up some funds, hopefully from Mr ASX.

5th August 2009, 07:40 PM
Hi Bill,
We were one of the minority votes who went for a seminar, mainly because we're only 3.5 hours from Adelaide. But can certainly see the benefits of a webinar. We were tossing up between yours and another trading course and were almost swayed by a webinar they held. But glad we have gone this way. The webinar was a very easy way to get the information and ask questions with everyone able to join in, however it did lack the personal touch a seminar has. I'd be very happy with any extra training either way. But if you did, say, go with Shona's idea we'd sure make every effort to get there. Thanks again Bill.

I was looking forward to coming to Adelaide, to learn, socialise, meet some new traders, sample some of your preferred restaurants, catch up with people from the Melbourne seminar, meet some fellow Kiwi traders and test drive that Hot Rod.

But for now a webinar will be fine, and this will have to do for the skid around the block.

The webinar idea ROCKS!! It is available to more ODW traders and can be put together in a matter of days. Some people who could be overwhelmed by the seminar idea and some that would never give their input will probably also benefit more from a webinar if it is an interactive type with Q&A sessions! There is always also the possibility that in one webinar people discover that a different topic should be covered more in-depth and that could lead to a putting a new webinar together that are topic focussed and people could re-attend without taking more time out of busy and trading schedules. I enjoy seminars but maybe a celebration seminar could be done at a later stage with all the clapping, warm and fuzzy feelings etc.
Hope this helps!!

Hi Bill:
The idea of webinar is good, but I'd definitely prefer seminar. The reason is simple, if you are doing the seminar you are physically there, you take time off from work and you are dedicated to concentrate fully for the event. With a webinar you can't get away from your day to day distractions be it house work, work, family etc. Also it is much easier sitting in a seminar and listen to you than sitting in front of a laptop/desktop and do the same for long number of hours. So seminar is the way to go. However webinar is a very good idea as well, specially if you can do on monthly/bi-monthy basis.

Whatever you decide it will be a good experience for the participants.

Cheers

Ok, you have spoken and with a very loud voice (93%!!) I heard WEBINAR!

I'll start researching webinar software and I'll set about some testing and then we can have one whenever we feel like it. Start writing down your questions. We should be able to get them started this month. As for regularity I'll play it by ear but for now the main goal I have is to answer all your questions and bring you all up to my speed.

Thank you all for voicing your opinion so strongly. Got to love capitalist concepts voted on by a democratic process.

We will organise a get together event (probably on a weekend) soon as well, I'd like to have one this year so we can all meet each other but for now, webinars it is.

Hi Bill,

A webinar would be the way to go since I am still studying your course. I say this even though I have an internet connection that leaves a lot to be desired and I cannot get a better one through any service provider as yet. Maybe some of us who are not able to access your webinar could get help from some great folks in the forum in terms of a webinar recorded on CD? Just a thought.

Thanks
Ralph

Well, I hope that no one is making copies of my stuff except for their own use but I get your point and it's a good idea. A DVD recording will be essential for those with bad connections - then again a bad connection and day trading options aren't really a good mix either. In any case, yes a recording will probably be available for anyone who wants one.

Webinar or Seminar, It depends what you want to achieve. Webinars are usually short duration, an hour or two and are used more for marketing. You are not going to learn much about trading in a few hours.
Seminars on the other hand can be held over the weekend for two or three days and allows for saturation learning, asking questions, practising, and building relationships.
Tony Robins, Chris Howard, Jamie McIntyre, Dymphna Boholt, Carly Crutchfield and many others use seminars.

My opinion, start with a seminar, and then follow up with regular webinars, that way you will get more people trading sooner as they can actually gain tremendous confidence over a whole weekend.

However looking at the previous posts looks like I'm on a hideing to nothing here, So I guess majority rules.

I'm thinking that this will not be a power point type one hour thing but more a "join me for a while while I answer questions and you see how I go about trading". I know from experience that all I need is a few good hours with someone after they have watched my movies to send them happily on their way.

But don't worry, I really also want to get everyone together for a talk fest as well and I agree with your points - who knows, it may still go ahead as planned. I also see a more immediate need being filled more easily with Webinars and I'm going to start trials very soon (I have already downloaded the software).

I think there is still a place for Trader's Paradise events as well but let's get some immediate learning going as soon as possible. A good seminar needs promoting and time but a webinar can be started anytime and has an immediate effect. They are also so cheap that I can have one at any time I think it's needed.

As long as the effect is the same (you learn to trade profitably quickly) I'd rather go with the incredible convenience of a web based delivery system. It's rapid, effective but less social and focus is more of a challenge. I guess it'll be up to me to make them so useful that everyone's happy.

The webinar sounds like a great idea Bill,i have never been apart of one so i don't really know how functional they are but I'm sure we will all pick up lots from the experience with you behind the wheel :3gears:.I am still looking forward to us all getting together though and getting to know all the other fellow ODW's, but that can wait until we can all get together at an ODW convention :beach: somewhere.

Great link Ross! I want one!

Don't worry everyone I am not eliminating seminars. I also have a deep desire to have you all in one room together. We are a very tight family group all with just about the exact same goal (to make thousands a week to save us having to go to work). The buzz in that room will be palatable however if I use the webinars to help you all become more profitable it will be an even bigger charge and we could all afford far more extravagant locations...etc. I really don't want to take more money off you guys until you are profitable. You all bought a result off me (not access to a forum or DVDs) and I agree that a webinar or two will make a huge and dramatic change in your understanding. Often it only take a a short while for me to steer new traders in the right direction once they have watched all my "exactly how to" movies. That will be my goal for these webinars.

Hi Bill,

Ive been paper trading for 4 weeks now, learning heaps from this experience and to date have earned more every week, than my current job .My trading account is nearly complete and will move forward to day trading soon.

Having this webinar will certainly be the icing on the cake for me and many others in my postion.Thanks.
I do look forward to down the track to visit those extravagant locations for our tax deductible Seminars, like you said according to your planning: when we can easily afford to do that.

Thanks again

Hi Bill,
I understand completely your position with wanting to get an education event together quickly to reach the maximum number of people. If anyone can make a webinar work well, I know it will be you. There is no doubt the cost of staging a seminar is a major factor, although I have no objection to paying a reasonable attendance fee to such an event.

So strap the camera to your shoulder, and we will all have a look as you take us through the process of making money from trading. That is what we all want to do.
Can't wait for this event now, I feel the excitement rising.

Hi Bill,

I have attended quite a few Webinars and the organizers have always recorded the session, and emailed it to us a couple of days later.

Do you think you will record them?
As you know, we only retain a small percentage of what we hear, so it would be beneficial to be able to replay it at our leisure.
I know each time I listen, I pick up new information I didn't get the first time.

I am certain you can rely on the integrity of everyone at ODW to respect your privacy, but I realize to record everything, it would be an extra burden on your time.
So I totally understand if you decide against it.
It was just a thought!!!

Hey Bill,
Other webinars I've attended have been recorded and then uploaded to a secure members only area where they can be viewed eg like you've done with the videos. Realise it's a lot of bandwidth when there's a few hours of stuff recorded but it's another option.
